2018 Apprentice - Signalling
Level 6 Embedded Electronic Systems Degree Apprenticeship – Signalling Apprentice
Are you looking for an employer who will sponsor you through a degree, whilst providing valuable and exciting on-the-job experience within a global, innovative and industry leading organisation?
Assessment centre dates: February & March
Closing date: 22 January
What you’ll be doing
Involved in the design and delivery of signalling design solutions around CBTC (Communications Based Train Control) and conventional signalling. Will carry out the scoping of design elements, specifying the requirements, analysis, calculations and determining the signalling solutions. Will be involved in reviewing designs provided by 3rd parties to ensure they are integrated into the whole design solution and meet the customer requirements. The signalling designs will be a mixture of electrical wired circuits, software driven processing logic and communications.
Due to the safety criticality of the signalling designs, you will be expected to build up a portfolio of evidence and experience that you will manage in order to obtain and retain the necessary licences required to carry out safety critical designs.
You will be involved in supporting site activities like surveying, installation and test carried out by others within the railway environment in order to ensure the signalling designs are successfully implemented.
You will be expected to develop your knowledge and experience with the view to exploiting the opportunities that digital technologies can provide to the railway industry.
Through our degree apprenticeship you’ll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand engineering from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.
As a signalling apprentice you will be studying towards a BEng in Electronic Engineering, under the Embedded Electronic Systems Degree Apprenticeship standard. For the duration of this 5 year programme you will be given one day per week in which to complete your studies with a local university. For the other 4 days you will be working in the business, applying your learning and gaining a breadth of experience across the engineering function.
At the end of the programme you will have achieved a BEng in Electronics. There will also be the opportunity to apply for professional registration with the Institute of Engineering and Technology as an Incorporated Engineer.
This opportunity is available in Stratford, within the transportation business.
