Le centre de compétences pour la signalisation ferroviaire urbaine est situé au centre-ville de Toronto. Position Title: Manager, Software Specification and Testing

Location: Toronto

The successful candidate will manage and coordinate all activities associated within a technical context linked with software specification and testing activities.  They will supervise and direct the duties of staff members assigned to them, including the coordination of activities/time and delegation of workload.  They will also ensures that the Software requirements and tests individually performed and/or by their assigned staff meets overall product/project system requirements by traceability to the software requirements and by functional software testing coverage, consistent with the standards of Thales Rail Signaling Solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages writing of the software requirement and test procedures as well as implementation of the test. Also focusing on automation of the test using the continuous integration environment
  • Plans, coordinates and monitors the performance of the work, identifies and manages risks during all the Work Package lifecycle until the closure
  • Ensures compliance with commitments relating to his/her Work Package (costs, deadlines, quality) in accordance with project plans and objectives
  • Liaises with the Software Engineering Managers for all aspects relating to his/her work package. Conducts all work package activities to reach completion of the project
  • He/she performs this role from authorisation to start until closure of the work package for all aspects of organisation, scheduling, effort, budget, etc.
  • Write and maintain the Software Test Plan
  • Ensures that the software test plan is followed during the entire lifecycle of the project/product
  • Ensures that the team adheres to in-scope standards (CENELEC 50128-2011, Chorus 2.0)
  • Provides leadership and motivation to staff; acting as a mentor to assigned staff
  • Provides input to manage and evaluate employee's performance
  • Prepares and implements low level plans, schedules and budgets for software projects and reports status
  • Assists the Software Integration Director on staffing plans and in adherence to capital and expense budgets
  • Works in conjunction with the Software Integration Director to ensure all recommendations (such as training, tools, etc.) adhere to overall departmental budget
  • Contributes to Software Design and debug
  • Manages reviewing of the test procedures, test scripts and test results
  • Provides cost estimates for software specification and testing during the bid process

Skills and Experience:

  • University degree in Computer Sciences, Engineering or a closely related field
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant working experience
  • Understanding of work package management concepts
  • Understanding of and managing the risks associated with software testing procedures
  • Experience leading small teams
  • Deep understanding of the project management principles (ideally achieved through managing projects for multiple years or through a PMP or equivalent designation)
  • Practical experience in terms of creating software specification and tests and managing traceability and complex test plans and procedures
  • Ability to manage projects within budget/schedule in a challenging environment
  • Practical experience in using  DOORS, Reqtify, automation test frameworks
  • Knowledge of SelTrac CBTC signaling systems
  • Working knowledge of modern software engineering practices, methods,  tools and standard (including but not limited to International Railway Standards)
