Thales has a 6 month placement opportunity for a 4th year student in 2020.


Thales UK is looking to recruit an internship student over the period June 2020 throug Mission Systems offices in Templecombe, Somerset. The successful applicant will int they will be exposed to a variety of theoretical and practical engineering activities in hardware. In addition, the successful applicant will be provided with resources to fulfill the requirements of their individual Project.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

  • To support the design and development of the underwater sensing tech
  • Prototyping/proof of concept of new designs, acoustic testing and analysis
  • To progress work on MEng Individual Project.


  • Work collaboratively within a team environment and demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills, proactive “can-do” mentality and logical and creative problem solving approach.
  • The holder of the role should be able to demonstrate the following:-
  • Knowledge of relevant engineering principles and physics (Mass Spring-Damper Systems)
  • Strong data analysis skills and sound mathematics
  • Ability to conduct basic experimental laboratory testing


  • Working knowledge of the following software; Labview, MathCad, MATLAB
  • Familiarity of finite element analysis (FEA) packages, i.e Onscale


  • Working towards an MEng degree level accreditation in an appropriate discipline; e.g. acoustics, mechanical, electrical or manufacturing engineering.

Due to the sensitive nature of the work that Thales UK undertakes, only applicants that hold sole UK citizenship and pass the appropriate national security vetting can be considered for the role

In line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years. Some vacancies may require full Security Clearance which can require further evidence to be provided.
