Level 6 Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship – Software & Systems Apprentice

What you’ll be doing -The Role
As an apprentice you will be given the opportunity to work on a range of customer projects, grow your understanding and experience of systems and software engineering all at the same time as learning about the wider Thales business.
You will get to work across the different phases of the systems/software engineering lifecycle gaining on the job experience. Your day to day your tasks might typically include any of the following:
- Documenting requirements in a clear and unambiguous manner ensuring they are complete, consistent, concise, comprehensible, traceable and feasible.
- Systems and software design
- Developing and testing software applications, using Java/C++
- Producing and running integration and verification tests
- Helping set-up and manage development and test environments and tools
- Supporting software installations at customer sites
These activities will all provide you with a great foundation from which to develop your career in systems or software engineering.
Through our degree apprenticeship you’ll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand engineering from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.
As a software and systems apprentice you will be studying towards a BSc in Digital and Technology Solutions with BPP University, following the Software Engineering pathway. For the duration of this 4 year programme you will combine university studies with practical application, working within our software function in Templecombe.
This programme is delivered via an online learning platform, with two evening tutorials running per week. You will be given one day per week in which to focus on your studies. For the other 4 days you will be working in the business, applying your university learning in a real life software environment. At the end of the apprenticeship you be working as a software engineer within one of the Thales UK businesses.
This opportunity is available in Templecombe, within the Land and Air Systems business.
Who we’re looking for
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are motivated, committed and keen to learn. A self-starter who is able to manage their time, show initiative and has a genuine interest in software and Thales. Successful candidates will show self-discipline and an aspiration to achieve a degree qualification.
You will also need
- 3 A Levels grade A-C including Maths and/or a relevant discipline such as Physics or Computer Science, or
- Relevant BTEC Level 3, or
- Completion of a level-3 apprenticeship/professional qualification in a relevant discipline
- Right to Work in the UK for the duration of the 4 year programme
