2018 Apprentice - Project Management

What you’ll be doing - The Role


You will be working within the Maritime Mission Systems Customer Support Sector who provide all post delivery services to our maritime customers worldwide from our Templecombe, Cheadle and Bristol sites. The work covered varies from the flagship Sensor Support and Optimisation Programme (SSOP) for the UK Royal Navy through managed services contracts to minor spares and repairs tasks.
This will be a wide ranging role that will build both Project management and bid management capabilities where you will be involved in all activities from early bid capture through bid and proposal preparation to service delivery.

Your day to day activities will support the CSS bid and Support managers with the following:

  • liaising with business development and product management teams to assist in the identification of opportunities
  • Development of Customer requirements
  • Taking bids through the Chorus II process, including development on WBS/OBS/Scheduling
  • Establishing cost baselines
  • Launching won contracts on the business
  • Monitoring and management of won contracts

The Programme


Through our higher apprenticeship you’ll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand the business from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.


This is a 2 year apprenticeship programme, working within our Bid and Project Management job family, as a Project Management Apprentice. Over the course of the programme you will be supported to achieve a Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship in Project Management, with QA Training. You will attend 6 weeks of training with QA at one of the UK training facilities and will be supported to achieve your work based portfolio through regular on site assessor visits.


In addition to this you will undertake project planning and controls training, delivered by Thales Training and Consultancy. On completion of the programme you will be secure a role within our Bid and Project Management job family.


This opportunity is available in Templecombe, within our Defence business.


Who we’re looking for


We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are motivated, committed and keen to learn. A self-starter who is able to manage their time, show initiative and has a genuine interest in Thales and project management.


You will also need
  • 5 GCSEs grade A-C or Level 5 and above, including English and Maths.
  • 2 A Levels grade A-C or an equivalent level qualification
  • Right to Work in the UK for the duration of the 2 year programme
