Director Safety (f/m/d) MLS Germany Domain

In the Transportation division at our headquarters in Ditzingen near Stuttgart

You will enjoy having this responsibility:

Assure that Thales GTS BL MLS develops, installs and commissions in MLS Germany Domain Safe Railway Systems that are fit for their intended use and fulfill the requirements of our customer. The German Domain is the biggest entity of the BL with half of the employees and revenues. It drives as well some positions in Safety councils at GTS GBU and Corporate level.

It also involves the following tasks:

  • Accountable for all Safety Assurance work done within their Domain
  • Veto right to stop commissioning in case of safety issues at any time.
  • Accountable to define the Domain specific Crisis Management Procedure
  • Accountable to implement the Crisis Management according to the generic GTS GBU  and Domain specific Crisis Management Procedure in case of Safety incidents or accidents
  • Accountable to sign for Safety the Project DVa forms
  • Accountable to sign for Safety the Limited Deviation Permits (LDPs)
  • Accountable for Approval management
  • Important contributor to define BL MLS Safety Management processes
  • Accountable to implement  the overall BL MLS Safety Management processes in Domain GE by 
  • Building and maintaining a healthy safety culture within the whole organization
  • Defining standards, processes and best practices in safety for the organisation, which meet specifications and budgets
  • Managing adequate Safety Awareness trainings for all employees and dedicated Safety trainings in safety sensitive roles
  • Guiding other departments on the latest changes of national, international and European laws, regulation, procedures and approval related norms and standards
  • Ensuring that all systems and products delivered from the domain meet the contractual safety requirements with respect to local operational rules and laws
  • Interface with GTS GBU Safety Council:
  • Contributing to best practices within the safety community by representing their Domain.
  • Membership in working groups, e.g. Corporate Engineering Safety working group, GTS CyberNet working group
  • Accountable for DIN 17020 accredited and EBA approved inspection center / Prüfleitstelle, which has to be handled like a “company in the company”, with its own management system, to keep requested independence.

You have:

  • University degree/diploma in transportation, automation, electrical engineering, computer sciences, physics or comparable practical experience
  • 3-5 years in technical projects development related to safety critical or security systems
  • 5 years experience in rail signalling or safety systems development, testing or safety management
  • Able to analyse and to understand complex systems, activity chains and operational concepts
  • Knowledge of railway systems and in particular Thales systems
  • Knowledge of regulations and code of practise of the Country Domain
  • Knowledge of European railway regulations and standards (CSM-RA, CENELEC, others)
  • Knowledge of reliability and safety analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of process to implement & commission commercial railway projects
  • Shape solutions out of complexity
  • Be ambitious and accountable
  • Perform through cooperation
  • Influence key stakeholders
  • Engage and develop teams
  • Native of the Domain and English (verbal & written)
