The Cryptography team in Singapore develops embedded cryptographic libraries for the Mobile Connectivity Solutions business unit. These libraries are integrated in Thales’ products such as removable SIMs and eSIMs. As a Software Engineer you will be working in a stimulating environment doing software development and evaluation. This is an ideal role for engineers who want to focus on writing small but complex functions on an embedded target.

A week in the life of a Software Engineer (Cryptography Implementer for Microcontrollers):

  • You will implement Cryptographic algorithms on various microcontrollers (ARM, 8051, etc) using C and Assembly language
  • You will monitor with the team innovations in Applied Cryptography, for example new algorithms or newly discovered weaknesses, to improve Thales’ microcontroller cryptographic libraries.
  • You will assist in the certification of Smartcard products specifically with the Cryptographic module
  • You will occasionally perform attacks on smartcards’ cryptographic module using the team’s laboratory equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • You must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. It would be preferred if you have a Master’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, basic understanding of modern cryptographic algorithms and secure coding, knowledge of possible attacks, software countermeasures.
  • Proficiency in low level programming languages such as C or Assembly. Strong understanding of architecture and programming model of microcontrollers. Willingness to learn Mathematical concepts related to cryptography.
  • It would be preferred if you have used embedded development tools like emulators or development kits.
  • We would like someone to join our team who is a strong verbal and written communicator, logical and creative problem-solver, open-minded and a quick learner. 
  • We are looking for someone with at least 2 years of experience in a software engineering position or a related role.
