Optical Telecom Architect

He/She will provide specialized engineering expertise in the frame of Optical Communication Telecom systems and Payload Solution definition in terms of design and analyses with particular focus on crypto system based on Quantum Key Distribution infrastructure, in all phases of a space project life cycle, from design specification to manufacturing, integration,  verification phases, up to operations.

He/She will carry out design, analyses, dimensioning activities in the frame of new TLC solutions implementing  ground-to-space and space to-space (InterSatellite Links) communications at optical  wavelengths. 

In addition he/she will coordinate, in support to Project Design Authority, systems engineering activities related to E2E and payload definition, design and realization, involving optical communications and cybersecurity (QKD, Quantum cryptography).


  • To carry out architectural design and performance analyses and reports for new SatCom TLC systems implementing optical links
  • To contribute to RD project and to support optical product developments, according to DTI roadmap goals
  • To technically interact, coordinate and supervise optical  subsystems/equipment design and development operated by industrial partners
  • To plan and coordinate the whole validation activities of optical SatCom system/subsystem

Experience / Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Engineering or related disciplines, with a specialization which includes optical telecommunication or electronics
  • Knowledge of optical links dimensioning needed.
  • Knowledge of Quantum Key distribution technologies needed
  • Knowledge and experience in Cyber Security needed
  • Knowledge and experience in MATLAB is needed
  • Knowledge and experience in Satellite communication is an asset
