Level 4 Cyber Security Apprenticeship – Cyber Security Apprentice

Our exciting Cyber Security Apprentice role will develop your cyber security skills to become a confident, positive and flexible security engineer with well-honed technical knowledge. You will support the team to deliver cyber security solutions to deadlines and within budget on both information technology and operational technology systems.
As an Apprentice Cyber Security Engineer you will develop the key skills and experience in the following:
- Cyber security assessments of customer infrastructure
- Security testing of networks using industry standard software tools
- Providing guidance on the secure configuration of network devices and operating systems
- Developing security requirements that support the design of secure networks and products
- Undertaking security research on systems and software
- Audit of the effectiveness of an organisation’s security controls
Through our apprenticeship you’ll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand cyber security from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.
As a Cyber Security Apprentice you will be studying towards becoming a Level 4 Cyber Security Technologist. For the duration of this programme you will combine studies with practical application, working within our cyber security function in Reading.
This programme is delivered via a blended learning model whereby you will attend college for a number of study weeks over the course of your programme where you will study cyber security industry recognised courses. In addition you will have a number of online resources and support that you will be able to access remotely. You will be given 0.5 days per week in which to focus on your studies and for the other four days you will be working in the business, applying your learning in a real life engineering environment. At the end of the apprenticeship you be working as a cyber-security engineer within Thales UK.

Who we’re looking for:
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are motivated, committed and keen to learn. A self-starter who is able to manage their time, show initiative and has a genuine interest in cyber security and Thales. Successful candidates will show self-discipline and an aspiration to achieve a Level 4 qualification.
You will also need:
Candidates will need a minimum of 104 UCAS tariff points at A2 (Grades BCC) with at least 1 STEM subject (Maths, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Electronics) or an equivalent e.g. BTEC DMM. They will also require 5 GCSEs grade A-C including English and Maths.
Right to Work in the UK for the duration of the 2 year programme

All apprentices require full Security Clearance in line with United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) requirements - to gain clearance you will typically need to have been a UK resident for a minimum of five years. As part of this process you will be asked to provide evidence of your identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history. In line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years.
