Software Engineer (SCADA)

Software Engineer (SCADA)

The primary purpose of the role is to provide software development expertise for project/product as a member of the Engineering Department.

Key Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include:

  • Plan, coordinate and monitor the performance of the work, identify and manage risks during all the Work Package lifecycle until its closure.

  • Ensure compliance with commitments relating to their Work Package (costs, deadlines, quality) in accordance with project plans and objectives.

  • Support technical BID activities proving input to develop Technical Proposals (Solution Orientation) and relevant costs estimation

  • lead and coordinate all the activities associated within a technical context linked with software activities.


The Software Engineer is also:

  • Part of a team of software developers working on various projects. Responsible for the coding, testing and configuration and support of a particular component

  • Design, document, code, test and correct moderately complex systems from supplied specifications, using agreed standards and tools

  • Conducts reviews of supplied specifications, with others as appropriate

  • Software development for new products (development and supervisory control and data acquisition systems in the transportation domain)

  • Software maintenance for existing products

Some travel to client sites and occasionally other Thales RCS sites may be required. Therefore, flexibility to travel and work at other locations is essential.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent.

  • Experience in SCADA software products to monitor and supervise heterogeneous devices with standard or specific communication protocol.

  • Good communication and inter-personal skills Effective personal organisation and an ability to remain composed and focused under pressure

  • Has a sound ability in the use of software design tools to manage software designs

  • Understands requirements tracing from design through to development and test

  • Operating Systems: Windows,  Linux is a plus

  • Proved experience using SCADA products; knowledge of MOVICON SCADA is a plus. 

  • Development Environments: Visual Studio, Eclipse Code editors e.g. vi

  • Programming Languages

    • C, VB, C# (is a PLUS),Shell Scripting

  • Development Methodologies: Agile/Scrum

  • Knowledge and experience of one item from each of the following categories:

    • Service Web Services, XML, UML

    • Relational Databases as SQL Server, MySQL is a plus.

    • ModBUS, SNTP protocols

  • Knowledge of Relational Databases as SQL Server, MySQL is considered a PLUS

  • Configuration Control: Git

  • Continuous integration/automated Test Tools

  • Good Knowledge of English (written and spoken), French is a plus

  • Desirable proven experience in working within multidisciplinary teams to design and estimate technical solutions

  • Can use metrics as part of Quality Assurance & control to change and re-model a software design process

  • Desirable experience of requirements management tools (e.g. TFS, Doors)
