Location(s) Harwell, Oxford than Cannes, France (for initial 2 years)

Primary Purpose of the Role:

The primary focus of the role is to coordinate the Data Population activities for the PLATO SRDB, ensuring timely availability and configuration control of the incremental deliveries performed throughout the Integration of Units and SCSW for the PLATO AVM, as well as providing a point of contact for TAS for the SRDB Prime Manager. As part of the Systems team you will work closely with the Avionics Design Architects and Test Teams to support verification of the Avionics Subsystem (AOCS and DHS) contributing to the execution of the Avionics Integration, Verification and Validation Plan on the Avionics test bench and Spacecraft PFM.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

Reporting to the Systems Engineering Manager, the main duties will include:

  • Primary Task: Provide the focal point for Spacecraft Reference DataBase (SRDB) Engineering activities related to Avionics verification:
    • Co-ordinate SRDB inputs from External Suppliers, Avionics Architects, Verification Architects and the Verification Test Team.
    • Co-ordinate formal SRDB releases with the Spacecraft SRDB Prime manager to meet Avionics Verification schedule needs.
    • Participate in the SRDB non-conformance process with Prime and Customer
    • Contribute to the validation of the SRDB through the Avionics Verification activity
  • Primary Task: Support the Avionics Verification process:
  • Taking inputs from System/Unit documentation and Technical Requirements Specifications define test specifications for the verification of the Avionics Subsystem (AOCS and DHS, including the onboard software) for:
  • Integration (I&T) tests
  • Integrated Subsystem tests (ISST)
  • Integrated System tests (IST) including AOCS closed-loop, FDIR, Performance and Mission
  • Provide engineering support to the Avionics test team
  • Produce test analysis reports contributing to the Verification Control process (VCD’s)
  • Support problem resolution and contribute to the Non-Conformance Review Board (NRB)
  • Participate in the review cycle (TSR/TRR/TRB)
  • Definition and verification of Flight Operations Procedures (FOP)
  • Support the verification of FOP’s by the Mission Control Centre
  • Ensure efficient transition of processes to Spacecraft AIT

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree (or equivalent qualification) in engineering with electrical and software background
  • General knowledge of all Spacecraft subsystems (AOCS, DHS, Power, TT&C, Payloads)
  • Experience in Spacecraft Database Engineering including SCOS 2000 and XML formatted SRDB
  • Experience in Spacecraft Avionics (AOCS and DHS, including Payload Data Management)
  • Familiarity with Spacecraft data bus architecture (SpaceWire, MIL-BUS-1553 and RS422) and communication protocols
  • Knowledge of ECSS standards for data handling (CCSDS, PUS and CFDP protocols)
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS, and modelling tools will be an advantage
  • Experience in Configuration Management and associated processes and tools (Windchill, JIRA, Git etc ..)

The position will initially be based at the TAS-F facility in Cannes, France for a period of up to 2 years, returning to Harwell, Oxford thereafter.

In line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years.
