About Your Role

As part of the global Thales Group, Australian Munitions is the only large-scale manufacturer of explosive ordnance in Australia. Our Benalla site produces ammunition, explosive ordnance and other munitions, while the Mulwala site focuses on high quality gun and rocket propellants, high explosives, complex systems and acid production. We have a decades-long pedigree in explosives ordnance manufacture in Australia, while the broader Thales group has munitions manufacturing facilities throughout Europe.

The Australian Munitions business operates and manages the Australian facilities on behalf of the Commonwealth Government and supplies Munitions to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) via the Strategic Domestic Munitions Manufacturing (SDMM) Contract.  As the ADFs’ Munitions requirements are evolving so are we – transforming the breadth and depth of the Munitions supplied to the ADF - manufactured in Australia.

We are now seeking an experienced Product Capability Manager to lead our Munitions, Energetics and Chemicals (MEC) Product Line. In this role you will be responsible for managing current product demand whilst ensuring our MEC offering aligns with the broader Thales business along with our customers future requirements.

To be successful in this role you will have a broad yet in-depth understanding of Defence capability along with experience of defining and implementing product line strategy. A key part of the role requires this you to navigate internal Thales processes to ensure funding and product development is done in accordance with Thales policies.

Some of your responsibilities in this role will be;

  • Define and implement Product Line strategy

  • Prepare and present Product Plans and Product Life Cycle Decision Reviews

  • Develop and maintain Market & Customers Requirements Description

  • Provide support to Key Account Managers, Sales, and Capture Leader, Bid Managers during pre-sales and Bid activities.

  • Control and monitor Product Line and Products competitiveness, Business Plan and roadmap

  • Provide project management support to the delivery of selected projects

How About You?

To be successful in this role you can come from a variety backgrounds, it is however envisaged you will;

  • Have a Degree in Science or Engineering (i.e. Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing or Mechatronics) and be eligible for Chartered engineering Status with the IEAust

  • Have extensive experience or a strong understanding of Defence Capability

  • Proven Project Management experience

  • Having prior knowledge of and experience with energetics, munitions and weapon systems is desired but not mandatory
