Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) Manager

We are currently looking for a Sales and Operation Planning (S&OP) Manager to join Thales in Irvine, CA. The S&OP Manager will be the global owner of the day-to-day activities of Thales’s Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process.  The S&OP process is focused on short term and long-term planning and decision-making optimizing customer service levels, operational costs and revenue attainment.  The S&OP Manager will be responsible for building on and improving Thales’s existing S&OP process to create a best-in-class S&OP process collaborating cross-functionally with Commercial, Finance, Demand/Supply Planning and Manufacturing.

The S&OP Manager is responsible for leading and interfacing with all stakeholders, managing the global demand forecasting process, performing analysis, and creating materials for update meetings. This process requires the S&OP Manager to work with all stakeholders to align production and demand plans at country and regional level and works with supply chain and distribution to ensure inventory is staged correctly to achieve sales goals.  Aligning global demand within the ability of the supply chain organization to respond and ensuring all stakeholders understand these limits is critical to success in this role.  This role will carry global goals for inventory, revenue, and forecast accuracy. 

This role is structured as an individual contributor, however, will require substantial cross functional leadership and program leadership.  Strong analytical capabilities and communication/presentation skills are a must as this role will require regular interaction and discussion with senior leadership globally.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to lead cross functionally without formal authority and will be able to successfully represent the global organization to help navigate sometimes competing priorities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and align globally S&OP process for systems, consumables, and spares

  • Manage global demand creation process with regional commercial organizations ensuring adjustments fall within established service levels

  • Coordinate with supply chain to align supply with demand

  • Ensure global achievement of both revenue and inventory goals through successful S&OP process

  • Pressure test/challenge regional demand forecasts; use as inputs to create global operational forecast as input to production planning

  • Ensure containment of shipping and other costs through effective S&OP

  • Lead the cross-functional weekly & monthly S&OP cadence

  • Lead process for supply-demand balancing, in-quarter execution, constraints, allocations and forward-looking projections

  • Design, analyse, and present KPI’s to key stakeholders. Help stakeholders develop plans to meet and exceed KPI targets.

  • Aggregate large amounts of data, filter for importance and tie together in a context relevant story designed to drive action

  • Drive cross-functional alignment with the business, Sales, Product Management, Supply Chain, Operations and Finance

  • Drive monthly/quarterly enhancements to streamline process

  • KPI Ownership

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with minimum 8-12+ years of relevant experience in Demand, Supply or Sales & Operations Planning or Master’s degree in related field with 6+ years of relevant experience

  • Experience with large-scale change management projects

  • Capable of influencing and driving decisions through the S&OP process

  • Ability to be successful driving change in a highly matrixed environment

  • Leadership presence and the ability to lead a process in a highly matrixed environment

  • Experience coaching, developing and mentoring Team members.

  • Experience leading a S&OP functional area (supply, demand and/or Finance)

  • Experience creating and presenting oral and written, communications

  • Strong analytical, organizational, decision making skills

  • Experience developing and managing projects/programs

  • Experience interfacing with senior management and effectively represent global/functional positions in a high-pressure environment

  • Experience creating executive friendly presentations on complex business and supply chain topics and presenting to senior level audience

  • Experience building and maintaining productive cross-functional relationships excellent communications and interpersonal skills

  • Experience with planning, analytical tools Ex: Oracle/Demantra, SAP, Kinaxis Rapid Response, BI, Tableau or similar

Preferred Qualifications:

  • APICS Certification preferable

  • Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent Lean problem solving skills preferred.

  • Procurement/Supply Chain Management experience in the Aerospace, Airline and/or Electronics industry is preferred.
