Advanced development engineer - Integrated Topside Design

About the team

The Business Line Sensors designs radar systems and other sensors, usually acting as part of a complete, integrated defence system. The department Advanced Development/Advanced Studies Delft is at the beginning of a continuous innovation chain. The most important tasks and responsibilities of the department are applied research, feasibility studies, system concept design and engineering of new radar technologies and demonstrators of those technologies. In addition, the department has a key role in integrating and harmonizing ship top deck equipment through a range of technical EM analyses and design activities, which is done in close contact with its stakeholders. This is called Integrated Topside Design (ITD).

The department is a young, open and creative environment with a lot of freedom for defining one’s own activities and room for personal development.

About the job

  • The activities consist of modelling and simulation of ship top deck configurations, finding potential challenges in the EM domain, and proposing solutions to those challenges.
  • In addition, an Integrated Topside Design Engineer will contribute to our ITD tool set by proposing and implementing innovations for it. These innovations can be functional, performance wise, as well as focused on improving human-machine interaction. 
  • An Integrated Topside Design Engineer will perform ITD in a small team of experts, and also has strong communication lines with both internal and external clients.
  • The activities can be done in close cooperation with both national and international partners.

About you

  • Graduated to at least HBO-level (B.Sc.) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar
  • Affinity with EM aspects, preferable gained some experience with EM simulation software
  • Interested to work in the naval defence domain
  • Practical skills with software development and software configuration management
  • Interpersonal skills, good communicator
  • Organised, accurate, pragmatic, result-oriented, ‘we can do it’ approach
  • Fluent in Dutch and English, both verbal and in writing
  • Knowledge of Python, Matlab, CST, MS Office (expert level) is a big plus
