Systems Engineer

Permanent Thales UK opportunity which includes anInternational Secondment to Thales Netherlands 18-24 months

With continued success in our Defence business domain and a huge amount of bidding activity in progress, we are looking to develop a core team of specialists for Above Water Systems in the UK. This role gives the ability to support a growing business line develop UK knowledge and expertise by seconding to, and working closely with colleagues in Thales Netherlands. This is the perfect opportunity for an experienced Systems Engineer to take on a new challenge and gain international exposure on a secondment basis (support provided and duration can be discussed) and on completion, you will return to Thales UK and play an integral part to the continued success by imparting the learning knowledge from your experience.

About the team

We have a growing commitment and partnership with Thales Netherlands; a welcoming and dedicated team of Systems Engineers in Hengelo and you will be fully immersed in all their projects and gain vital understanding of the ways of working and products. As an experienced Systems Engineer, you will work in an international, multidisciplinary team on the research and development of a command and control system.

Our Opportunity

As an experienced Systems Engineer, you will work in an international, multidisciplinary team on the research and development of a command and control system. Your team consists of representatives of the customer, suppliers of subsystems and other parties involved. In the team you are responsible for the technical design, activities include:

  • Discuss operational needs together with the customer

  • Design the architecture of the command & control system

  • Define the functional behaviour of the system

  • Define interfaces between the Thales command & control system and 3rd party subsystems

  • Manage technical issues of subcontracts during the development of the Mission Solution

  • Demonstrate the solution to the customer

When you join our group you will have a varied working week. One moment you discuss your solution with the customer, the other you spend defining the interaction between our command & control system and other systems on board of the ship. You frequently meet with your team to learn from each other and to discuss progress.

Upon completion of secondment, you will return to Thales UK to join the team and impart the learned knowledge.

About You

As a Systems Engineer, you will operate as the technical focal point for the System Engineering process and must resolve issues and problems in the entire system. This can often result in frequent handling of new and unusual issues and therefore a proven record and knowledge of system engineering is required. You will be working a number of internal and external teams so strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate will be key.

Working as part of a new extension core team we are looking for a self-motivated individual who will thrive and enjoy working in a developing environment. The success of the Systems Engineering job family relies on the interaction of its engineers at all levels, therefore evidence of team working and knowledge sharing is required.
