Level 6 Embedded Electronics Systems Degree Apprenticeship – Test Design Engineering Apprentice

The role should develop both your hardware and software skills to become a confident, positive and flexible engineer with well-honed technical knowledge gained from academic commitments, supporting the team to deliver test solutions to deadlines and within budget.

As an Apprentice Test Design Engineer you will develop the key skills and experience in the following

  • Programming skills and software design

  • Solution engineering and hardware architecting

  • Experience of working in an integrated team environment, across a diverse range of products and projects

  • Familiarity with product data management, requirements management, and the product development lifecycle

  • Knowledge of work package management and estimation

  • Develop quality test solutions that adhere to time-scale and budget

  • Develop domain specific knowledge, including safety and airworthiness requirements

  • Opportunity to engage with stakeholders across the business

The Programme:

Through our degree apprenticeship you’ll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand engineering from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.

As a Test Design Engineering Apprentice you will be studying towards a degree in Embedded Electronics Systems and Design Development Engineer, following the Engineering pathway. For the duration of this 4 year programme you will combine university studies with practical application, working within our system function in Crawley.

At the end of the apprenticeship you will be working as a Test Design Engineer.

Who we’re looking for:

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are motivated, committed and keen to learn. You will be a self-starter who is able to manage their time, show initiative and has a genuine interest in engineering and Thales. Successful candidates will show self-discipline and an aspiration to achieve a degree qualification.

You will also need:

Candidates will need a minimum of 104 UCAS tariff points at A2 (Grades BCC) with Maths and at least 1 further STEM subject (Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Electronics) or an equivalent e.g. BTEC DMM.

They will also require 5 GCSEs grade A-C including English and Maths.

Right to Work in the UK for the duration of the 4 year programme

Please note that applicants who already hold a relevant degree will not be eligible for this programme.

All apprentices require full Security Clearance in line with United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) requirements- to gain clearance you will typically need to have been a UK resident for a minimum of 12 months. As part of this process you will be asked to provide evidence of your identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history. In line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years. Some vacancies may require full Security Clearance which can require further evidence to be provided.
