Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship – Environmental & Materials Science Apprentice

Location: Crawley

Our exciting Environment & Materials Science Apprentice role will develop your skills to become a confident, positive and flexible engineer. With well-honed technical knowledge gained from the academic commitments and supporting the team to deliver Environmental & Materials Science knowledge and testing capability to Thales UK.

As an Environmental & Material Science Apprentice, you will develop the key skills and experience in the following.  

  • To review new designs of the product(s) you are working on for testability.
  • Developing Test documentation including Test Specifications for production test and systems test.
  • Running tests on products and materials within the Environmental facilities.
  • Accredited measurement techniques.
  • Investigation & measurement techniques.
  • Develop understanding of compliance & regulations within environmental engineering & materials science.

The Programme:

Through our apprenticeship, you’ll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand engineering from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.

As an Environmental & Material Science Apprentice you will be working towards a Level 3 in Engineering Technician. For the duration of this 3-4 year programme you will be given one day per week in which to complete your studies with a local college. For the other 4 days you will be working in the business, applying your learning and gaining a breadth of experience across the industry.

This opportunity is in Crawley. 

Who we’re looking for:

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are motivated, committed and keen to learn. Someone who enjoys applying themselves to hands-on technical challenges and enjoys making or fixing things in their spare time. A self-starter, who is able to manage their time, show initiative and has a genuine interest in engineering and Thales. Successful candidates will show self-discipline and an aspiration to complete further education with the possibility of progressing to a degree.

The successful candidate will be given a super friendly experienced Thales-buddy. The buddy is there for advice, guidance with tools and as a general sounding board to start you off with the support you require to successfully integrate in the professional environment of Thales business.

You will also need:

Candidates will need a minimum of 5 GCSE’s A-C (4-9) including English, Maths and a further STEM subject.
