Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship – Systems, Test and Support Engineer Apprentice

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Systems, Test and Support Engineer Apprentice to join the Systems Integration, Test and Support (SIT&S) team within Thales Underwater Systems (UWS) business. The team provides through-life engineering support to the many Thales Sonar Systems deployed by both the Royal Navy and export customers across the world.

Thales’ sonar expertise covers everything from advanced acoustic arrays through to sophisticated signal processing architectures. We are delivering the world’s most advanced Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) sonar to the Royal Navy, as well as cutting edge electro-optical and electronic warfare technology for submarines. Every submarine periscope and optronic mast used by the Royal Navy since 1917 has been supplied by Thales.

This Systems, Test and Support Engineer Apprenticeship provide an opportunity to apply off-the-job technical training with on-the-job practical experience working with Thales Sonar Systems and our key customers, including the Royal Navy.

This Apprenticeship will help you to develop your knowledge of Sonar Systems and present you with the opportunity to assist the Systems Integration, Test and Support team in maintaining and developing our important relationships with our customers.

The Programme:

Through this level three apprenticeship you’ll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand engineering from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.

As a Systems Test and Support Engineer Apprentice you will be working towards a level three qualification in engineering technician. For the duration of this three – four year programme you will be given one day per week in which to complete your studies with a local college. For the other four days you will be working in the business, applying your learning and gaining a breadth of experience across the industry. At the end of the programme you will move into a permanent role within the engineering function.

This opportunity is in Cheadle, working within the defence business.

Who we’re looking for:

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are motivated, committed and keen to learn. A self-starter who is able to manage their time, show initiative and has a genuine interest in Thales. Successful candidates will show self-discipline and an aspiration to build a career within the engineering function.

You will also need:

Candidates have a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4-9 (A-C) including English, Maths and a Science  subject.
