What you’ll be doing
Working within the System Test and Release (STaR) team you will be involved in all aspects of release level testing to meet product delivery goals. You will be directly involved in developing automated system test suites in a range of programming languages to verify functional, non-functional and security related requirements and to validate product use cases. An important aspect of the test engineer role is software defect detection; continuously engage with software development teams in reporting, escalating and resolving these issues.
As part of the STaR team you will have the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills through exposure to many tools and technologies, e.g., hypervisors, operating systems (both Unix and Windows), hardware platforms, virtual machines, automation, test frameworks, network monitoring and analysis, databases and associated data security solutions et cetera. As a valued member of the team, you will have the opportunity to propose new tools and technology adoption and actively contribute towards continuous improvements.

Through our degree apprenticeship you’ll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand engineering from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.
As a test apprentice you will be studying towards a BSc in Digital and Technology Solutions at Anglia Ruskin University, following the Software Engineering pathway. For the duration of this 4 year programme you will combine university studies with practical application, working within our software function in Cambridge. You will attend Anglia Ruskin University for 3 block weeks over the course of each year, with additional tuition provided through online delivery. At the end of the apprenticeship you be working as a test engineer within the engineering function.
This opportunity is within the Thales e-security business in Cambridge.
Who we’re looking for
are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are motivated, committed
and keen to learn. A self-starter who is able to manage their time, show
initiative and has a genuine interest in test engineering and Thales.
Successful candidates will show self-discipline and an aspiration to
achieve a degree qualification.
You will also need:
- 3 A Levels grade A-C including Maths and/or a relevant discipline such as Physics or Computer Science, or
- Relevant BTEC Level 3, or
- Completion of a level-3 apprenticeship/professional qualification in a relevant discipline
- Right to Work in the UK for the duration of the 4 year programme
- Please note that applicants who already hold a relevant degree will not be eligible for this programme.
