What you’ll be doing-The Role

Thales delivers cutting-edge solutions to armed forces the world over. We are Europe’s number one supplier of defence electronics and a leading provider of integrated air defence systems.
The Trials & Environmental Test Department performs many activities related to testing and performance monitoring of the various defence projects.  The Trials & Environmental Test Department is involved in Environmental Planning, Testing, Development Trials, Missile Acceptance processing and In Service Support for UK MOD and Overseas trials.

Key responsibilities

  • Hardware development for weapons systems trials
  • Participation in all aspects of the Hardware Lifecycle
  • Trials Requirements, Analysis and Specifications
  • Firing of missiles in support of Thales system trials
  • Hardware assignments across product lines with a trials and environmental test focus
This opportunity is within the Land and Air Systems business in Belfast.

The Programme
As a Trails & Environmental Engineer trainee you will be studying towards a BEng (Hons) in Mechatronics at University of Ulster Jordanstown, following the Mechatronics pathway. For the duration of this 5 year programme you will combine university studies with practical application, working within our engineering function in Belfast. You will attend University of Ulster two half days a week over the course of each semester, with additional tuition provided through online delivery.  At the end of the apprenticeship you be working as a trials & environmental engineer within the engineering function.

The successful candidate will:
  • Display innovation and self-motivation;
  • Exhibit good communication skills;
  • Be able to work efficiently within a team, and individually;
  • Be able to accommodate working in a high pressure environment;
  • Demonstrate dedication and determination in assigned tasks
  • Exhibit excellent problem solving skills
  • Be computer literate
Desirable Skills
  • Experience of Engineering
  • Knowledge of Material selection and Surface Treatments
  • Experience using Materials Testing Equipment

3 A Levels at grade B or above (predicted or obtained) with a minimum of 2 subjects in Maths, Physics, Technology or Computing (ICT not accepted)
