2018 Apprentice - Test Systems

What you’ll be doing- The Role

Thales delivers cutting-edge solutions to armed forces the world over. We are Europe’s number one supplier of defence electronics and a leading provider of integrated air defence systems. As a Test Systems Engineer Trainee, you will be working under the guidance of the Test Systems Work Package Manager, carrying out Design & Development tasks related to Test Equipment and Supporting Acceptance Testing of Thales products.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Development of Test Plans
  • Ensure Testability requirements are satisfied
  • Develop test applications in hardware and software for use during Product Acceptance
  • Design and coding of test software
  • Conducting aspects of test solution development in accordance with company processes and standards
  • Support Operations in Product Acceptance Test including fault diagnosis and repair
This opportunity is within the Land and Air Systems business in Belfast.

The Programme

As a Test Systems Engineer trainee you will be studying towards a BEng (Hons) in Mechatronics at University of Ulster Jordanstown, following the Mechatronics pathway. For the duration of this 5 year programme you will combine university studies with practical application, working within our engineering function in Belfast. You will attend University of Ulster two half days a week over the course of each semester, with additional tuition provided through online delivery.  At the end of the apprenticeship you be working as a test engineer within the engineering function.

The job holder must be self-motivated, self-disciplined, reliable and responsible with an ability to assimilate information quickly.  They must also possess a high degree of integrity, be a good team member and be committed to an ethos of continuous improvement. All applicants should be enthusiastic and have a genuine interest in Thales.

Essential Skills
  • Demonstrable experience of programming in a high level language (e.g. Labview, C, C++, C#,Phyton)
  • Some practical knowledge of data communications
Desirable Skills
  • Knowledge of Digital & Analogue Circuit Design & Development
  • Digital / Analogue Fault finding
  • 3 A Levels at grade B or above (predicted or obtained) with a minimum of 2 subjects in Maths, Science, Technology or Computing
